Good habits make all the difference, but when safety and efficiency are on the line, they pay dividends.
On September 26, 2020, at the 26th Workers Technical Competition of Xiamen City, held at the Logistics Training Base Haicang Vocational College, the VIA Mobile360 AI Forklift Safety Kit helped instructors imbue the next generation of forklift drivers with the proper operating techniques needed to drive the ecommerce of tomorrow.
The global shift towards ecommerce was already well underway before the onset of COVID-19. Now, quarantines, shutdowns, and fear of transmissions have accelerated this trend away from brick and mortar, pushing consumers to online shopping and home delivery. In this context, warehouses are a critical link in the supply chain, as efficiency in materials handling and order fulfillment become integral in optimization. With this new emphasis, forklifts play an essential role, with a projected global market valuation of US$ 81 billion by 2027. This makes qualified and properly trained forklift operators a propulsive force in the new ecommerce marketplace. Our assistance in the 26th Workers Technical Competition of Xiamen City is an exemplar in how AI will make forklift training safer, while giving the forklift drivers of tomorrow the tools to succeed.
With the implementation of the VIA Mobile360 AI Forklift Safety Kit, forklift training at Haicang Vocational College is more effective and safer. Even before any driving takes place, a safety check begins with the smart facial recognition feature, which identifies permitted and unpermitted drivers.
The kit’s DMS (Driver Monitoring Systems) also plays an important role ingraining the proper habits of competent drivers by detecting distracted driving behavior, like phone use or smoking, as well as signs of fatigued driving, for example yawning. When detected, the system will alert the driver to correct the behavior. Maintaining safe speeds and fastened seatbelts are reinforced through speeding alerts via the CAN bus and seatbelt sensors respectively. In addition, the VIA Mobile360 SVS (Surround View System) gives drivers a panoramic view of the forklift’s surroundings, with 360-degree collision warnings
Effective training and competition relies on clear student observation. With the VIA Mobile 360 AI Forklift Safety Kit instructors and referees have the ability to analyze captured SVS and DMS video footage to make operator training and grading more objective.
The desirable driving practices taught to students do more than just reduce the risk of on-site accidents; they translate into safe habits that last a lifetime. At the 26th Workers Technical Competition of Xiamen City, forklift drivers got a leg up for a future that will surely depend on their efficiency and safe driving practices.
The 26th Workers Technical Competition’s story is the latest in our new `In The Wild’ series, which debuted last week. Through this new series, we will be highlighting “in the wild” applications of VIA products, and showcasing how our partners have found solutions to real-life problems with the wide-ranging capabilities of our product line. Last week’s series debut demonstrated how we have helped EcoMulch turn safety into a core value of their mulch business. Read the full article here.
