How does a company go from developing chipsets for the PC world to producing pro dash cams for commercial fleets? This week, VIA Product Marketing Manager Mike Fox returns to our studio to share the journey of the VIA Mobile360 D700 AI Dash Cam, and the lessons learned along the way.
Designing advanced pro dash cams takes more expertise and knowhow than one might expect. To meet the demands of today’s fleet managers, these devices need to deliver advanced AI safety features, like Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, and Driver Monitoring, enhancing driver safety while also collecting and collating rich telematics data which can be accessed through a fleet cloud management portal. One of the key challenges to this comes in balancing the dash cam’s compact form factor with the performance and accuracy of its features, all the while keeping costs affordable.
In this episode, Mike explains how in the past 30 years, the gradual shifts made in VIA’s strategy, like moving from the pure IC to the embedded market, have endowed VIA with the capabilities to deliver a powerful pro dash cam. Tapping into VIA’s experience with low power, high-performance, AI embedded systems has proved a vital stepping stone to entering the pro dash cam market.
Developments in 5G and cloud computing also spell changes to come for the smart mobility, with long term projections enabling AV application. Mike shares forecasts for what greater speed and bandwidth means for smart mobility and the pro dash cam market.
